Residential and Housing

Our focus is on creating warm, efficient, and enduring places to live—homes that feel good to be in, work for everyday life, and respond naturally to their site and climate. We work closely with homeowners to understand how they live now and how they hope to live in the future. Whether it’s a new build, a careful alteration, or a sensitive extension to an existing home, we bring clarity to the brief and a commitment to thoughtful design choices.

Example Projects

  • On a compact Christchurch site and modest budget, this home demonstrates how inventive design can achieve both efficiency and elegance. Its sculptural form features irregularly placed windows that optimise sunlight and reduce heat loss, while deep reveals frame sweeping views of the valley, hills, and city beyond.

  • Designed to meet certified Passive House standards, this home delivers exceptional energy performance and comfort. Triple-glazed timber windows, thick wool insulation, and Abodo timber shingles provide thermal efficiency and durability, while responsibly sourced materials reduce environmental impact.

  • Replacing a home lost in the Canterbury earthquakes, this design embraces its hillside setting beside a native reserve. Simple, uncluttered forms open to treetop views and the Southern Alps, while cedar cladding and natural tones connect the house to its landscape.

  • A family home oriented to capture sweeping northwest views from every room, with bedrooms positioned above interconnected living spaces for privacy and connection. A restrained form and efficient construction approach kept the design aligned with budget, while flexible layouts support a growing family.

  • Set within a wetland landscape, the house follows the gentle contours of its site and uses a palette of earthy tones to harmonise with native grasses. Expansive glazing frames views from living and bedroom spaces, while natural materials and low-impact detailing reinforce the home’s connection to its environment

Brief      Repeatable Design - Elderly Persons Homes

This project delivers 16 new one-bedroom homes for elderly residents at Friendship Lane, replacing outdated units from the 1970s. Designed with a repeatable layout for efficiency, each unit incorporates variations in material colours to create individuality and a sense of community. The homes prioritize warmth, security, and independence, offering a comfortable living environment tailored to the needs of older residents. Generous natural light and thoughtful planning enhance wellbeing, while durable materials ensure longevity and low maintenance. The project was completed in collaboration with BP Construction.
